Heathwood is a peer-reviewed journal. Majority of Heathwood’s publications are available online and for free; however, we also publish books and a print journal. Before making a submission, please familiarize yourself with our project. For submission information, see below:

Online Journal

We are actively accepting submissions for any one of our Key Series & Themes. We also accept general submissions, which may not fit with any of our ongoing series.

From time to time, we also release subject-specific Call for Papers as well as CFPs for special projects. Latest CFPs can be found in the news section of this site. Ongoing special projects can be found here.

Making a submission

If you would like to submit something for publication in the Online Journal (our website), please ensure you follow all steps in the guide below:

  1. Please ensure your article is edited to a publishable standard prior to submission. If it is not edited to a publishable standard, it will be rejected. [Heathwood does not offer copy-editing services].

  2. Please review our reference and formatting guide and ensure your article meets its standards. For example, we ask that all references are in APA.

  3. Along with your completed and edited article, we ask that you provide a short paragraph (in your submission email) on why/how your submission meets Heathwood’s research aims. You should familiarize yourself with our Methodology and Research Aims documents.  Please ensure this introductory paragraph is inserted directly in your email to us. If your email does not contain this introductory paragraph, it will be rejected.

  4. After these steps are completed, submit to submissions[at]heathwoodpress[dot]com. Specify in the subject heading the title of the work. Please also specify in the email body whether you are submitting for a particular research series, or if you are making a general submission.

All submissions are peer-reviewed. If accepted, your article will be forwarded for peer-review. Please note this process can take several weeks.

Print Journal

The Heathwood Journal of Critical Theory was founded in 2014, with its first issue published in print in September 2015. The Journal is peer-reviewed. That said, the Journal is also open to submissions from anyone. A selection of articles published in each issue of the journal may also appear on the website, after a short time delay.

We take seriously the need to move ideas forward. Each issue is organized around a general theme will this need in mind. The Print Journal is organized around special themes and subjects. Please keep an eye out for a Call for Papers both in the news section and on social media (Twitter & Facebook).

Book Submissions

We are currently not accepting unsolicited manuscripts for book publication.

Heathwood doesn’t operate as a traditional book publisher. Majority of our book publications are authored by those who have a direct affiliation with our project. However, if you have an idea that you think fits particularly well with our project, we’re always open to discussing it. You can contact us here: submissions[at]heathwoodpress[dot]com
